Role Summary
The Managing Editor will oversee the end-to-end editorial workflow for assigned academic journals, ensuring timely processing, rigorous quality control, and strict adherence to ethical publishing standards (e.g., COPE). The role requires strong editorial operations experience across peer review, author communication, integrity checks, and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end editorial workflow, from manuscript submission through peer review, decision-making support, and final readiness for publication.
- Coordinate with authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members to ensure efficient communication and ethical handling of manuscripts.
- Lead peer review operations, including reviewer identification/selection support, invitations, tracking, and ensuring timely, constructive, and ethical reviews.
- Conduct author screening (authorship, affiliations, contributions) to ensure compliance with journal policies.
- Perform plagiarism checks and support appropriate, policy-aligned use of AI tools to maintain originality and research integrity.
- Ensure adherence to referencing and citation style standards, including basic checks for completeness and consistency.
- Monitor compliance with journal policies, publishing platforms, and relevant international publishing standards.
- Support initiatives to improve journal visibility, and contribute to indexing/abstracting readiness efforts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of editorial workflows, quality assurance, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Science, Technology, Medicine, or a Health-related field (or equivalent).
Experience
Bachelor’s (with 6 years' experience) or Master’s (with 3 years' experience) in academic journal publishing/editorial management (Open Access preferred). Candidates must demonstrate end-to-end publishing expertise, from submission → peer review → decision support → publication readiness.

- Ability to manage multiple manuscripts/journals simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong commitment to ethical scholarly publishing, research integrity, and responsible AI use.
- Confidence working with manuscript tracking systems and standard editorial documentation.
